I think we'll be having a drill soon with the house across the street from the
fire station. I hope that new information will come soon so I can post the
date, start time, and all the important details soon. This isn't a huge event,
but a very important drill. This will be actually the kind of work CERT will be
doing during an incident. Please call Steve Lazenby for more information.
Thank you all for helping with this event!
Just minutes before midnight on
March 12, 1928, the St. Francis Dam
collapsed.

Located approximately 10 miles
northeast of present day Magic
Mountain in Valencia, the dam
collapse sent billions of gallons of
raging water through the Santa
Clara River Valley, killing more than
600 people before washing out to
the ocean.     --Peggy Kelly
We're Ready Santa Paula   CERT
Lessons in Readiness from
the St. Francis Dam collapse!
Being ready to deal with a disaster or an emergency – which can happen anywhere and at any
time – is the smart, proactive way to protect yourself and your family.
Readiness is easy: having three days worth of supplies including food and bottled water on
hand for each household member, flashlights and a radio – don’t forget fresh batteries! – and a
predetermined meeting place for family members is essential, but it is only a start.

Everywhere in the United States the number of professional emergency responders will never
be enough for a wide-scale emergency or disaster. It is up to responsible family members to be
prepared to take care of their own, as well as assist their neighbors if possible.
The Santa Paula Citizen Corps Council and Ready Santa Paula!  We
urge you to contact your
local fire department or the American Red Cross for more information.
Being prepared is easy and smart.
Being prepared can also be a fun family effort !
Note from web CERT SusanLaz: Can you just imagine
anything more scary at midnight?   Some of my family lived
through it.  Some perished....and no one ever thought this
could happen in this beautiful, idyllic valley. What If ?
Be ready, be smart, be prepared.
