Car and Roadside Kit Suggestions
:Emergency Roadside Car Evacuation Items
|

Everything in your car
must be tied down. All
tools must be secured--
bungee-tied, or with a
strong rope under the
seats. Smaller and less
heavy supplies should be
loaded in a backback in
case you have to start
walking. The back-
pack or backpacks need to
be secured, also.
The recommended way to
secure items is to use a
net and tie-downs on the
backs of the seats, in the
trunk, or in the back where
groceries are placed.
A good reminder here; is
that all loose objects in a
car need to be secured
because in case of an
accident, a person could
be really injured by their
own loose items. An
artichoke could hurt and
my purse could be a
weapon... I need to lose
the heavy stuff.
Take a class in personal
defense and always
drive defensively.
Remember: Your
decisions determine your
destiny.
Don't forget your house
keys and leave one hidden
that family or close
friends know, but the
looters don't! Leave a
message somewhere again,
so your family knows
where you are going.
Remember this is part of
your 72 hour kit, if your
car is yours, you don't
need to have double the
supplies, unless you would
like to give to another.
Lastly...don't forget
your children and pets!
IMPORTANT:
**The items that I have put two stars
in front, need to be kept with you always!
There's More...
- **PDW (Personal Defense Weapon) I know that sounds
harsh, but good, just in case. They could be your walking-
stick or cane, pepper spray or an air horn.
- **Prescription medicines and a list of the information and
dosages.
- **Radio with extra batteries or even a wind-up type radio.
Make sure it gets both the FM and AM band frequencies.
- **Flashlight and spare batteries. Again, there's now
available the wind-up type that doesn't require spare
batteries.
- **Whistle (three short blasts is the recognized signal
for help)
- Duct tape
- Bottled water--at least 4 litres per person
- Canned food, can opener or Leatherman, or Swiss Army
Knife, that has this tool.
- Dried fruit, energy bar, cookies, crackers
- Outdoor clothing and backpacks
- Sleeping bag(s), "space" blankets
- Good First Aid kit and the instructions for First Aid
- Seatbelt cutter
- Waterproof matches stored in metal and candles in a metal
container. You will have to be careful about the candles.
They melt. Store them standing up in their metal holder
and don't use the ones with glass or pottery around them.
- Toilet tissue, moist baby wipies, paper towels, small
Kleenex pkjs. Store all in large and small plastic ziplock
bags.
- **Cash, coins
- Map of the area
- Pen, pencil, and paper, super sticky notes (the sticky notes
come in handy if you have to leave the car. Place them
backward on the car and two destinations where you could
be)
- Something to occupy you/children. An example would be
playing cards or small books, etc.
- Emergency information as even a list of what you put in
your car and where is the "pry-bar" located? Plus all the
other supplies? ;)
- **Eye protection or glasses and sunglasses
- Hat and knit cap
- Good worn-in walking shoes, moleskin, and excellent socks
- Wool sweaters and rain ponchos
- **Water purification tablets
- Short rubber hose for siphoning
- Extra fuses for car
- Bright bandannas
- Pet supplies and information (license copy and vaccination
information)
- **Laminated info card containing phone numbers, clinics,
schools, out-of-state contacts, coded passwords and safe
combinations.
- **Flashcard with computer information
- **Brag book with pictures of your family
