More CERT Information:

The CERT classes are designed to be
taken once a week for seven weeks. Each
class is 2-2 ½ hours long.  At the
completion of the seven week course
there will have been 15 to 18 hours of
classroom and hands-on training.

Field days are offered bi-annually The
field days are about 6-8 hours long and
provide a chance to practice old skills and
learn new ones.  We are mostly all new
at this and it makes everything that we
learn in class really fall into place. It’s a
fun and valuable way to work with your
friends, family, and neighbors that have
taken the
CERT classes. It is a
wonderful opportunity to provide great
community service.

Also… Because everyone is busy there is
provision made if a regular class must be
missed. The missed classes can be made-
up during the next series of classes or
any time later.  The
CERT curriculum is
the same no matter where the class is
offered.  There is no problem if you are
a little late or if you need to bring
dinner to class with you.  The classes
are fun and informative.  The time
passes quickly and you will enjoy the new
acquaintances that you make.  Couples,
families, and neighbors make great
combinations to attend the classes.

We have received our Santa Paula AM
radio frequency on Hospital Hill, already!
The frequency is AM 1610.  The new
radio system will provide information
about different training class
opportunities, emergencies, preparedness,
emergency and disaster or terrorist
alerts, and local information.

The
CERT training is held at the Santa
Paula Community Center 530 West Main
Street. It's behind the main center,
behind the fire station and the back
parking lot. It used to be a city shop.

New classes are starting up very soon
and Spanish speaking classes will be
available.
Home
Santa Paula had Disaster Preparedness Week
during the week of September 11, 2006. It was
very successful; and a week of learning,
observing, and implementing all of the skills the
citizens of Santa Paula have and are still trying
to work on.

Congratulations
CERT for winning the "Overall"
trophy during the Labor Day Parade and thanks
to Mike Levy for the wonderful military vehicles
that made us look sooooo goooood!!
I know we all will be looking forward to more
drills and opportunities to increase our training.
It would be great to know everyone had an AM
radio to listen to our "new"
1610 AM station All
families need to own a set of "family radio
service"
FRS or in-other-words, Family
walkie-talkies. They are readily available at
large department stores. "CBs" on our wish list!
New CERT classes will start Jan. 3rd and CERT will be working to
train more groups in different areas of the county. Our S.P. training
will be behind the Community Center. I have a "little" green arrow
pointing at blue garage door at the right. Finally, the lessons will be
taught in Spanish and English and will be held on different days.

CERT
training will be held on succeeding days with same lesson, so if
one class is missed a trainee can quickly get the same lesson in a
nearby town, the same week.
