| More CERT Information: The CERT classes are designed to be taken once a week for seven weeks. Each class is 2-2 ½ hours long. At the completion of the seven week course there will have been 15 to 18 hours of classroom and hands-on training. Field days are offered bi-annually The field days are about 6-8 hours long and provide a chance to practice old skills and learn new ones. We are mostly all new at this and it makes everything that we learn in class really fall into place. It’s a fun and valuable way to work with your friends, family, and neighbors that have taken the CERT classes. It is a wonderful opportunity to provide great community service. Also… Because everyone is busy there is provision made if a regular class must be missed. The missed classes can be made- up during the next series of classes or any time later. The CERT curriculum is the same no matter where the class is offered. There is no problem if you are a little late or if you need to bring dinner to class with you. The classes are fun and informative. The time passes quickly and you will enjoy the new acquaintances that you make. Couples, families, and neighbors make great combinations to attend the classes. We have received our Santa Paula AM radio frequency on Hospital Hill, already! The frequency is AM 1610. The new radio system will provide information about different training class opportunities, emergencies, preparedness, emergency and disaster or terrorist alerts, and local information. The CERT training is held at the Santa Paula Community Center 530 West Main Street. It's behind the main center, behind the fire station and the back parking lot. It used to be a city shop. New classes are starting up very soon and Spanish speaking classes will be available. |
